ABOUT THE FOUR ELEMENTS
The Four Elements project started in the Autumn of 2010 when Luis Pato, Teija Englung and Meinert Steensen got together around the theme “The 4 Elements”. The idea was to create a multi-arts performance capturing the essence of each of the 4 elements.
During the Winter of 2010, they met regularly to explore together the 4 Elements one by one, make direct observations and experiences with the elements, talk about their meaning for each of them and explore their connections to all of life’s realms. This inner search was very influenced by the anthroposophical way of observing and exploring.
The first set of performances took place in March 2012 in the hall from Sylvia-Koti Camphill Community in Lahti, Finland and at least 200 people attended. The critics were very positive and many people have expressed their wish that the project would be continued and that it would be brought to a bigger audience.
Luis Pato wrote this piece as a 4 movement suite for Piano and Cello, dedicating one movement to each of the four elements. The composer did not try to imitate or reproduce the sounds of the elements in itself, but rather to express the feelings and moods (the essence) that Water, Fire, Air and Earth bring to people. Each element has a very distinct character, which you can feel by listening and experiencing “The Four Elements” suite.
The result is a powerful, emotional and creative musical suite, which can be adapted to be performed solo or in conjunction with other artists, like dancers, eurythmists or light artists.
